Biography

Overview
Mensik is making his Laver Cup debut in San Francisco, the second player to compete for Team Europe from Czechoslovakia since Tomáš Berdych in 2017 at the inaugural competition in Prague. At just 19 years old, Mensik made history earlier this year defeating his tennis idol, Novak Djokovic, to capture the ATP Masters 1000 title in Miami, becoming the fifth-youngest champion at that level.

Off Court
Mensik’s favorite athlete is Golden State Warriors basketball Stephen Curry, who competes at Chase Center where Laver Cup San Francisco is being held in 2025. Nicknamed Menimal, he began playing tennis at five on courts in front of the family home and developed a love for the sport under the guidance of his first coach Ivo Muller. He prefers hardcourt surfaces and loves nothing more than drilling backhands down the line.

Career
Mensik is a former world No.2 junior who rose to No.16 in the senior rankings in August 2025 and captured his first ATP singles title at the Masters1000 in Miami where he defeated Taylor Fritz and 6-time champion Djokovic. The Czech star has beaten Team World’s Ben Shelton twice this year – in Auckland and Madrid – and also upset No.6 and Team Europe teammate Casper Ruud at the Australian Open. He currently leads the field in the PIF ATP Live Race to Jeddah where the Next Gen Finals will take place at the end of the year.
