In his 10 years as a professional player, Alexander Bublik has emerged as one of the sport’s most unpredictable, naturally gifted, and compelling personalities. His popularity has grown as much from the way he plays as from the sense that something unexpected is never far away. Now, for the first time, he brings that same presence to Laver Cup London 2026 as a member of Team World.
It is a stage he has long followed from afar.
“I always admired and adored the Laver Cup,” says Bublik as he puts on his Team World jacket. “I always watched it. It is amazing to be picked, and I’m looking forward to playing it for the first time.”
That sense of anticipation comes with a clear appreciation for the intensity of Laver Cup competition.
“The players are in full fight mode,” he says. “Players fight each other, and it’s great for the fans to see real-time action. I know the guys a bit better in Team World because I have played against them for so long. I have played the most against Taylor (Fritz) and Alex (de Minaur).”
A highly competent doubles player – he was a finalist at Roland Garros in 2021 with countryman Alexander Golubev and a semifinalist at Australian Open 2020 with Mikhail Kukushkin – Bublik has also partnered with Team World’s Ben Shelton several times, reaching the Rome ATP Masters 1000 semifinal in 2024.
“I have a great relationship with Ben, with his family as well, we play doubles together. I’m looking forward to being teammates with Ben … and with all the guys.”
Bublik has always been defined by unpredictability. A 6’5” frame with a huge serve, he thrives on disruption, turning standard exchanges into something far less predictable. Those qualities are among the reasons Team World Captain Andre Agassi saw Bublik as a valuable addition to his London lineup together with his strong record competing indoors and willingness to play doubles with diverse partners.
“I’m quite strong in indoor facilities, I have won most of my titles playing indoors,” Bublik responds when asked to name his greatest attributes as a teammate. “I can also play doubles. I can bring a bit of variety to the team.”
For Bublik, though, the first step is adaptation when he reports for duty at The O2 in September.
“I’ve gotta learn about myself a lot. The team competition is never easy, it’s going to be the first time for me, so I guess we’re all going to learn together.”
That learning curve arrives at an interesting moment in his career trajectory. He broke into the top 10 in January after winning Hong Kong and has now established himself as a consistent force across surfaces – nine career titles in singles, including indoor, clay, grass, and hard-court success.
His breakthrough moment came in 2022 when he defeated No.3-ranked Alexander Zverev for his first title at Montpellier. To this day, he holds a 3-1 head-to-head lead over the recently crowned Roland Garros champion.
Having reached the top tier of tennis, Bublik’s goal is to stay put. “I enjoy being a top 10 player,” he smiles. “The goal is to remain there and try to climb as high as I can. To remain in the conversation.”
Away from the court, Bublik has a balanced view of the modern tennis life, happily responding to fan requests as his Instagram following soars past 1.4 million. “People know me, I enjoy being a tennis player, and being famous is part of the life of a tennis player,” he shares. But tennis isn’t all his life, at most 50%. “The other 50% is life. The most important one.”
In London, 100% of his focus will fall on Team World’s quest to win a fourth Laver Cup, led by Captain Andre Agassi and Vice Captain, Patrick Rafter.
“They played a different game style, great people to have behind your back, to coach you, to help you, to do your best,” says Bublik, relishing the spectacle that surrounds each Laver Cup edition.
“I’ve played in front of a big crowd in London, and I think it’s going to be way different playing Laver Cup, because people support the teams rather than the players, so I think it’s going to be a great atmosphere.”
For Team World, Bublik’s debut brings an exciting combination of firepower, flair and personality. For fans, it means one more player capable of producing the kind of moments that can bring an arena to its feet.
