World No. 14 Frances Tiafoe has been confirmed as the latest addition to Team World for the Laver Cup, which will take place at Chase Center in San Francisco, from September 19–21, 2025.
Tiafoe will team up with fellow Americans Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul plus Brazilian teenage star João Fonseca, on Captain Andre Agassi’s team. With one remaining spot to be filled, Team World will be looking to reclaim the Laver Cup and win on home soil against a powerful Team Europe, which features World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, No.3 Alexander Zverev, No. 9 Holger Rune and No. 13 Casper Ruud, with two more players to be announced.
A five-time Laver Cup competitor, Tiafoe has been a key figure for Team World since the inaugural event in Prague in 2017. He holds a 6–5 win–loss record and famously sealed Team World’s first-ever Laver Cup title in London in 2022 with a dramatic victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, having earlier partnered with Jack Sock to defeat Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in Federer’s farewell match.
This season, Tiafoe was a quarterfinalist at Roland-Garros and a finalist at the ATP 250 event in Houston. He is a two-time US Open semifinalist, reaching the final four in 2022 and 2024, the latter ending in defeat to teammate Fritz.
“Frances is a perfect fit for the Laver Cup,” said Team World Captain Agassi. “He’s a big-match player, who thrives in the team environment, and is a threat in both singles and doubles. Beyond that, he brings incredible energy while on court and to our bench when supporting the team. His presence lifts everyone around him. I’m thrilled to have him on our team.”
“There’s nothing like Laver Cup,” said Tiafoe. “I love playing for Team World and competing alongside guys who are usually my rivals. We’ve built something special, and I can’t wait to bring that same energy to San Francisco. Playing at home in front of U.S. fans means a lot – and I want to do everything I can to help us win.”
Now in its eighth edition, the Laver Cup pits six of the best men’s tennis players from Europe against six of their counterparts from the rest of the World in a thrilling three-day competition.
Played on a dramatic black indoor court, the competition rotates between Europe and rest of the world cities each year. Each team’s six players must all compete in one singles match during the first two days, and no more than two during the three-day competition. At least four of the six players must play doubles. Each match win is worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday, and three points on Sunday, with the first team to reach 13 points winning the Laver Cup.
The 2025 edition of Laver Cup marks the event’s first appearance on the U.S. West Coast, with the state-of-the-art Chase Center, home of the seven-time NBA Champion Golden State Warriors and WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries, set to host tennis for the first time. A limited number of upper level tickets for Friday and Sunday are available via Ticketmaster, the official ticketing partner of Chase Center.
