Overview
One of America’s most promising young talents, Jenson Brooksby joins Team World in San Francisco as team alternate. The 24-year-old comes from Sacramento, California, and turned pro in 2021. As a wildcard at the US Open that year, he reached the fourth round, the youngest American since Andy Roddick, aged 20 in 2002, to progress so far. At the Australian Open in 2023, Jenson defeated Casper Ruud, ranked No.3 at the time. While several injuries have interrupted his progress, Brooksby has been ranked as high as No.33.
Off Court
Named after Formula 1 driver Jenson Button, Brooksby is the son of Tania and Glen, an anaesthesiologist. Voted ATP Newcomer of the Year in 2021, he started playing tennis aged four and, alongside his early affinity with tennis, Brooksby developed a passion for playing piano. His role model coming through was Rafael Nadal, who he admired for the Spaniard’s mentality and consistency, however he says the shot he would most like to possess is Novak Djokovic’s return.
Career
Currently ranked No.83, Brooksby captured his first ATP singles title at Houston this year, defeating quality opponents Tommy Paul in the semifinals, and Frances Tiafoe in the final. Other season highlights include a runners-up finish at Eastbourne to Team World’s Taylor Fritz and third round showings at the ATP Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Cincinnati.
