Czech Tomas Machac and American Jenson Brooksby will join Team Europe and Team World, respectively, as alternates for Laver Cup San Francisco 2025 at Chase Center from September 19-21. In their role as team alternates, they will take part in all team activities and appearances and take the place of a player in the six-man squad if he is unable to compete across the three-day competition.
Machac, 24, has proved himself a dangerous proposition on the big stage, advancing to the third round of the Australian and US Opens in 2025, and picking up his first ATP title in Acapulco, where he cast aside Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina in straight sets at the ATP 500 event. He defeated Team World’s Reilly Opelka in the second round at the Down Under Slam in Melbourne, a triumph he repeated en route to the fourth round in Miami, all of which led to a career high-ranking of No.20 in March.
Brooksby is also 24, and hails from Sacramento, California, where he has developed into one of America’s most exciting prospects. After turning pro in 2021, he reached the fourth round as a wildcard and became the youngest American since Andy Roddick, aged 20 in 2003, to progress so far. At the Australian Open in 2023, Brooksby defeated Team Europe’s Casper Ruud, ranked No.3 at the time. While several injuries have interrupted his progress, Brooksby has been ranked as high as No.33.
The eighth edition of the Laver Cup features returning players and many new faces. Incoming Captain Yannick Noah and Vice Captain Tim Henman will lead Team Europe’s 2025 lineup. Their final squad is Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Flavio Cobolli (a team alternate in 2024), and Jakub Mensik.
Team World sees Andre Agassi take the reins as Captain, with Pat Rafter supporting him as Vice Captain. The final squad is Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, Francisco Cerundolo, Joao Fonseca, Alex Michelsen and Reilly Opelka.
