Yannick Noah and Team Europe come into Day 3 two match wins away from reclaiming the Laver Cup. But Andre Agassi’s defending champion Team World loves to play the role of disruptor.

The Laver Cup format takes a turn on Day 3, with the doubles first up on the schedule of play. Three points will be up for grabs in this first-time clash between Cobolli/Mensik and De Minaur/Fritz, none of whom are doubles specialists. One of two things will be determined with the outcome: Either Team Europe will be left but a single match win away from reclaiming the Laver Cup, or Team World will take the lead, 8-7.

ALEXANDER ZVEREV (TEAM EUROPE) VS. LEARNER TIEN (TEAM WORLD)
Team Europe Captain Yannick Noah looks to the veteran Zverev to step it up on Sunday. The reigning Roland Garros and US Open champion has really come into his own at the age of 29, finally hurdling that elusive Grand Slam barrier and playing with confidence like never before. The German says he doesn’t necessarily see himself as a team leader, but he’ll be asked to set the tone on Day 3 in an intriguing matchup with Laver Cup newbie Learner Tien of Team World. Zverev will be looking to shake off a tight 2-6, 7-6(5), 11-9 loss to Alex de Minaur on Day 2. The 20-year-old Tien, meanwhile, is coming off a rock-solid performance against Flavio Cobolli, having defeated the Roland Garros finalist, 6-3, 2-6, 10-7, in yet another Laver Breaker. These two met in January in Melbourne, where the ultra-clean ball-striker Tien was appearing in his first major quarterfinal. Zverev stopped his run then, and hopes to do so again today.

CARLOS ALCARAZ (TEAM EUROPE) VS. ALEX DE MINAUR (TEAM WORLD)
As Alex de Minaur showed us on Saturday, he’s more than willing to bleed for his teammates. He did just that in taking out Alexander Zverev, 2-6, 7-6(5), 11-9, a court dive leaving him bloodied but undeterred. However, the 27-year-old all-courter will have his hands full on Day 3 against the seemingly indomitable Carlos Alcaraz, against whom he’s a winless 0-6. The good news for Team Word Captain Andre Agassi is that De Minaur never backs down from a good fight. That’s just what the Australians do best, dating back to Lleyton Hewitt, Patrick Rafter, John Newcombe, Ken Rosewall and beyond. “It’s always the Aussie way,” said the Team World vice-vaptain Rafter. “I wouldn’t call us the prettiest players, but we sort of found a way to get the job done and to fight no matter what.” Spain’s Alcaraz is fresh off the most dramatic win of the weekend, having saved two match points in dispatching Taylor Fritz, 6-3, 4-6, 13-11.

RAFAEL JODAR (TEAM EUROPE) VS. TAYLOR FRITZ (TEAM WORLD)
You know you’ve made a good impression when your captain calls upon you to potentially seal your team’s fate. That’s the case for 20-year-old Spanish sensation Rafael Jodar, who in a matter of a single calendar year has risen from No. 306 to No. 14 in the PIF ATP Rankings. Yannick Noah tabbed the former University of Virginia standout to go up against Team Word vet Taylor Fritz in what would be a rematch of this summer’s Washington final, won by Fritz. Each possess plenty of firepower off the ground and from the service stripe. Should it come down to this contest (as it did last year in San Francisco), will Fritz, 28, have enough left in the tank to once again deny the Laver Cup rookie, who downed Alexander Bublik in his Day 1 debut, 6-2, 6-3?
