FAMOUS FACES IN THE CROWD AT LAVER CUP LONDON

A host of celebrity guests joined the Laver Cup crowd at London’s The O2 this weekend. Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio sat alongside Roger Federer, while British actor Sir Ian McKellen chatted with Rod Laver about historic Wimbledon moments between matches. French football legend Thierry Henry spent time with Sir Andy Murray, and British singer Seal took to the court for an opening-session coin toss.

It was all about the tennis, according to American actor Jeff Goldblum, who came to multiple sessions with his wife and son.

“The second match [Saturday’s Alexander Zverev vs. Alex de Minaur], I got emotional,” Goldblum told LaverCup.com. “That was as exciting and athletic—and I like sports—as any time watching sports.”

Goldblum should know, as he’s witnessed World Series games, top-ranked boxing matches, and countless NFL games with his dad, who had season tickets in Pittsburgh.

The three-day Laver Cup celebrity list continued to balloon with some VIPS hitting multiple sessions. The list included the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Anna Wintour, James Corden, Romeo Beckham, Delta Goodrem, Mark Bonnar, Juan Mata, Sasha Baron Cohen, London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Lukas Haas, James Righton, James Norton, Golda Rosheuvel, Will Champion, Alex Pettyfer, Ella Mai, Dina Asher Smith, Douglas Booth, Caro Daur, and Chuck Pacheco.

“We are a little starstruck with these professional athletes,” Goldblum said.

Goldblum and his wife, former Olympian Emilie Livingston, watched Zverev win the US Open just a couple of weeks ago and had met him earlier at a fashion event, so seeing him play again was exciting. They caught him both on Saturday and Sunday.

Zverev wasn’t the only draw. Goldblum remembers filming The Big Chill the same year (1983) Yannick Noah won Roland Garros. “I remember that great-looking guy,” Goldblum said. He has long been intrigued by Andre Agassi. “Seeing him yesterday was fascinating.”

Goldblum said he loves tennis and likes to hit the ball around but doesn’t rate his standard. His two sons, Charlie and River, “play nice tennis. They play all the time. Tennis, tennis, tennis, all the time.” That led Goldblum and Livingston to enjoy a “special weekend” with River. “Now I’m sharing it with the kids as my father did with me,” Goldblum said about sports. “That was kind of a special thing.”
