CHASE CENTER: THE PERFECT SETTING

Chase Center’s modern design and state-of-art technology allow Laver Cup to drop in without the need for major updates.

The 15-foot spheres at Chase Center’s east entrance, a sculpture installation by Olafur Eliasson, show off infinite reflections. The arena and surrounding 11-acre business district, Thrive City, aim to match that concept with a near-infinite number of entertainment options in a city burgeoning as one of America’s fastest-growing global sports destinations.

Hosting its first Laver Cup – and the first on the West Coast of the United States – San Francisco’s Chase Center opened in 2019, fully privately financed as the glistening new home of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. It also gave San Francisco a state-of-the-art arena once again, attracting major events, from massive concerts to a Warriors’ NBA Championship.

“Chase Center is the perfect setting to stage the eighth edition of the event in a cosmopolitan city that loves its sport but has been without a top-level men’s pro tennis event for over 10 years,” says Tony Godsick, Laver Cup chairman and TEAM8 CEO.

Revitalizing San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood, Chase Center gives Laver Cup fans a modern arena full of amenities, both inside and out. Just south of some of San Francisco’s most iconic viewpoints – from the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz Island – the addition of Thrive City, a dynamic open-air district outside the arena, allows fans and families to enjoy free programming and experiences year-round, including the Laver Cup Fan Zone.

With a capacity just over 18,000, Chase Center’s modern design and state-of-the-art technology allow Laver Cup to drop in without the need for major updates, installing its trademark black court where the Golden State Warriors and WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries typically play, bringing fans close to the action while opening the concourses to tennis fans.

“Chase Center was engineered to offer an unparalleled, world-class fan experience that we are thrilled for Laver Cup fans from all over the world to enjoy,” says Chase Center general manager Donna Daniels. “The thoughtful interior design emphasizes spacious concourses, inclined sightlines for excellent court views from every seat and an art program that boasts over 200 museum-quality pieces.”

The waterfront arena, designed by David Manica, has LEED Gold architecture meant to evoke feelings of the tech-forward Bay Area. With an open concourse bathed in natural light, Chase Center has 44 luxury suites, 32 courtside lounges and 60 theater boxes, ranging from ultra luxury to a more social “sports bar” atmosphere.

No matter where fans sit, they have great views of the court paired with the NBA’s largest center-hung scoreboard (82 feet by 52 feet) and cutting-edge technology with a robust Wi-Fi network and sustainable smart building controls.

The Laver Cup is taking over five existing spaces, each redesigned with signature touches, from décor and lighting to elevated food and beverage offerings. Each space focuses on prime seating, unlimited dining with a bespoke menu for each session, an open bar and expedited VIP arena entry. Throughout the weekend, the premium spaces also feature celebrity chefs and bartenders, live cooking demos, wine tasting, candy stations, special merchandise offerings and Q&As with tennis legends.

Across the venue, Chase Center features fresh dining options inspired by Bay Area flavors, with eight full kitchens serving a diverse range of local favorites. From Sam’s Chowder House’s lobster rolls and clam chowder to Sarap Shop’s sinigang-spiced curly fries and award-winning pizzas by Tony Gemignani, the variety is as rich as it is delicious, says Daniels.

Chase Center is anchored by Thrive City, the home of the Laver Cup Fan Zone and a destination within itself according to Daniels. “Its design allows for customization for major events, such as the Laver Cup, enabling immersive activations that engage fans and extend the event’s energy beyond the arena walls,” she says.

In addition to the largest outdoor video board in the city, a waterfront esplanade and the five-acre public Bayfront Park, there’s also a mix of culinary options from popular Bay Area restaurateurs, including Tyler Florence’s Miller & Lux steakhouse, Che Fico Pizzeria, Kayah by Burma Love, Fikscue Craft BBQ and the new 30,000-square-foot Splash at Thrive City sports bar.

Chase Center offers a special treat for Laver Cup players, as located beneath the arena is the Oracle Performance Center featuring two full-size practice courts, a 4000-square-foot weight room, a full-service kitchen, a team theater, a tricked-out locker room with a ceiling designed to mimic that of Oakland’s Oracle Arena and even a barbershop for the NBA players. But when Team World and Team Europe step out to compete, it won’t be on a maple basketball court – it’ll be the striking black court of the Laver Cup.
