Global tennis tournament to invest in local tennis programming, including the renovation and resurfacing of six tennis courts at John McLaren Park.

Laver Cup organizers announced today its 2025 San Francisco Community Legacy Project, a comprehensive initiative developed in partnership with the USTA Foundation and Mercedes-Benz to invest back into the Bay Area tennis community ahead of the event’s arrival at Chase Center from September 19-21.

The multi-faceted program centers around substantial funding for two local youth tennis non-profit organizations and a San Francisco court resurfacing project, demonstrating the Laver Cup’s commitment to creating lasting impact in each host city it visits while expanding access to tennis for the next generation of players.

“The Laver Cup has always been about more than just the competition on court – it is about celebrating tennis and giving back to the communities that welcome us,” said Tony Godsick, Chairman of the Laver Cup and CEO of TEAM8.

“San Francisco has such a rich tennis heritage, and we are proud to team up with our partners at the USTA Foundation, USTA, and our long-time global sponsor Mercedes-Benz to create a meaningful legacy that will benefit young players for years to come.”

TRANSFORMING PUBLIC TENNIS INFRASTRUCTURE

The centerpiece of the Laver Cup Community Legacy Project is the complete resurfacing of six courts at John McLaren Park, a vital public tennis facility serving the surrounding community. Work is already underway and due to be completed before the Laver Cup begins in September. The courts serve as one of the home bases for Youth Tennis Advantage (YTA), a San Francisco-based junior tennis program that is part of the USTA Foundation’s National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) network. The network, co-founded in 1969 by tennis icon Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell and Sherian Snyder, is made up of more than 270 community based organizations that help young people from under-resourced communities prepare for their futures through tennis, education, and mentorship programs.

“San Francisco is thrilled to host the Laver Cup, and we are looking forward to the excitement, energy, and economic activity the matches will bring to our city,” said Mayor Daniel Lurie.

“Our city already has incredible public spaces, and these new investments in youth tennis organizations and the courts at McLaren Park will make a lasting impact with new opportunities for young people. Thank you to the Laver Cup, the USTA Foundation, and Mercedes-Benz for their investment in our young people and their commitment to improve one of San Francisco’s beloved parks.”

SUPPORTING YOUTH TENNIS

Beyond infrastructure improvements, the Community Legacy Project will provide significant funding to support programming at two recognized local leaders in youth tennis programs: Youth Tennis Advantage (YTA) and East Palo Alto Tennis & Tutoring (EPATT). Both organizations are part of the USTA Foundation’s prestigious NJTL network and have earned recognition as top youth tennis programs in the USA, serving thousands of young people annually while providing essential academic support and mentorship that prepares them for their off-court futures.

“The USTA Foundation is thrilled to partner with the Laver Cup and Mercedes-Benz on this inspirational Bay Area initiative,” said Ginny Ehrlich, USTA Foundation CEO.

“The Laver Cup Community Legacy Project will create opportunities for thousands of young people from under-resourced communities to play tennis and reap all of the benefits of our sport. This partnership helps fortify sustainable programs that will serve these communities for decades to come. The Laver Cup’s commitment to fan engagement in the fundraising process also creates a unique opportunity for tennis lovers everywhere to be part of something bigger than the tournament itself.”

MERCEDES-BENZ AS A PROUD PARTNER OF THE COMMUNITY LEGACY PROJECT

Mercedes-Benz, a long-standing global sponsor of the Laver Cup, is proud to be a key sponsor of this San Francisco community initiative. In line with the brand’s ongoing partnership with Roger Federer, Mercedes-Benz continues its giveback efforts this year to continue elevating the game and fostering the future of tennis.

“Mercedes-Benz is proud to support the next generation of tennis players in San Francisco,” said Mathias Geisen, Member of the Board of Management Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Marketing & Sales. “Together with the Laver Cup, we share the belief that sport can drive lasting change in communities around the world. It has the power to give children not only joy, but also a safe space and new perspectives.”

INNOVATIVE FUNDRAISING PROGRAM

The Laver Cup Community Legacy Project will employ a multi-channel fundraising approach with direct contributions from the Laver Cup, USTA Foundation and Mercedes-Benz anchoring the program.  The Laver Cup will also be donating to the program the funds generated from specific event initiatives offering fans and attendees the opportunity to indirectly contribute as well:

  • A premium auction for a Laver Cup 2025 VIP Experience via Charity Buzz
  • All proceeds from Laver Cup Open Practice Day ticket sales
  • Profits from select limited-edition Laver Cup merchandise

“This approach ensures we will leave an enduring legacy in San Francisco and invites our fans to be a part of it all,” said Laver Cup CEO Steve Zacks. “Fans can enjoy the Laver Cup and at the same time contribute to expanding opportunities for young tennis players in the Bay Area. This creates a deeper connection between our global audience and the local communities we visit, turning every Laver Cup into a celebration of tennis at every level.”

The 2025 edition of the Laver Cup will be held at Chase Center, San Francisco from September 19–21, marking the first time the prestigious team competition has visited the West Coast.

Limited tickets for this year’s Laver Cup are available via Ticketmaster, the official ticketing partner of Chase Center.
