Former British No.1 and six-time Grand Slam semifinalist Tim Henman has been named Team Europe Vice Captain for the Laver Cup starting with the 2025 edition being held at the iconic Chase Center in San Francisco from September 19-21.
Henman, one of Britain’s most accomplished tennis players, enjoyed a stellar career marked by 15 ATP titles and a career-high ranking of world No.4. Known for his serve-and-volley style and remarkable consistency on the grass courts of Wimbledon, Henman remains one of the most respected figures in the sport. Since retiring, he has become a prominent commentator and analyst, providing expert insight into the sport he loves.
Invited by Team Europe Captain Yannick Noah, Henman will take over from Sweden’s Thomas Enqvist who has been Vice Captain of Team Europe since the inaugural Laver Cup in Prague in 2017.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Team Europe as Vice Captain,” said Henman.
“Having watched the Laver Cup as a pundit and seeing first-hand the intensity, the quality of tennis and the passion and interaction between the players on the bench, I know how special this event is.”
“Being invited by Yannick to be part of the Laver Cup is a great honor and I’m really looking forward to working alongside him and the team to continue Europe’s winning tradition.”
Noah, who will make his Laver Cup debut as Captain this year, is delighted Henman accepted the role.
“Tim brings with him a wealth of experience and passion for the game, and his insights will be invaluable to our team,” said Noah. “He has always been a fierce competitor and a great leader on and off the court. I’m delighted to have him by my side as we aim to defend our title in San Francisco this September.”
Laver Cup 2025 marks a changing of the guard for both teams’ leadership with Noah and Henman up against eight-time Grand Slam Champion Andre Agassi and his recently named Team World Vice Captain, Australian Pat Rafter.
“We are thrilled Tim is joining Team Europe. He’s loved by fans and players around the world and brings incredible knowledge of the sport which will be invaluable in this role as Vice Captain,” said Laver Cup Chairman and TEAM8 CEO Tony Godsick,
“I’m delighted that our vision of bringing together champions across the generations is set to continue as we head into this exciting new chapter of Laver Cup history.”
Named in honor of Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, the Laver Cup pits six of the best men’s players from Europe against six of their counterparts from the rest of the World over three days of intense team competition.
World No.2 Alexander Zverev and world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz have been confirmed for Team Europe in San Francisco, whilst world No.4 Taylor Fritz and world No.14 Ben Shelton will represent Team World. Further players will be announced in due course.
