The highest-ranked Norwegian player in history, Casper Ruud, and the greatest Greek player of all time, Stefanos Tsitsipas, will represent Team Europe for the forthcoming Laver Cup Berlin 2024 to be held at Uber Arena from September 20-22.

Three-time Grand Slam finalist Ruud and Tsitsipas, twice a major finalist, will join world No.3 Carlos Alcaraz, No.4 Alexander Zverev, No.5 Daniil Medvedev and 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal on Captain Bjorn Borg’s six-man team.

It will mark Ruud’s fourth appearance with Team Europe, following his undefeated performances at Boston 2021, London 2022 and Vancouver 2023. Tsitsipas will also be representing Team Europe for his fourth time. He made his Laver Cup debut at Laver Cup Geneva 2019 and was Ruud’s teammate in Boston and London.

“Casper and Stefanos are experienced Laver Cup players who know what it takes to win points,” said Borg, who has assembled one of the strongest teams in Laver Cup history as Team Europe strives to win the seventh edition of the competition on home ground.

“They have been part of some intense battles and have raised the Cup in the past. I am happy to have them on the team.”

Ruud reached a career-high No.2 on the PIF ATP Rankings in 2022 and holds 12 ATP Tour singles titles, including two won in 2024 on clay at Geneva and Barcelona. He was a finalist at Roland Garros in 2022 and 2023, and runner-up at the US Open in 2022.

“It is a privilege to be part of this outstanding team and return for another shot at the title in Berlin. We have unfinished business,” said Ruud.

Tsitsipas has captured 11 ATP Tour singles titles, including his third ATP Masters 1000 at Monte-Carlo this year. He contested two major finals at Roland-Garros in 2021 and the Australian Open in 2023 and is a six-time Grand Slam semifinalist.

“I’m excited to be playing the Laver Cup again,” said the Greek trailblazer. “It is an honor to be part of this team and to compete alongside so many great players.”

Team Europe won the first four editions of the Laver Cup in Prague 2017, Chicago 2018, Geneva and Boston; however, Team World reversed the tables at London and Vancouver.

John McEnroe has so far named world No.6 Alex de Minaur, No.11 Taylor Fritz, No.13 Tommy Paul and No.14 Ben Shelton to Team World with just two roster positions remaining.

Borg and McEnroe have vowed to leave no stone unturned in their final year as Laver Cup captains. McEnroe has until the start of the 2024 US Open to name his remaining players.

Named in honor of Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, winner of the calendar-year Grand Slam in 1962 and 1969, the Laver Cup pits six of the top men’s tennis players from Europe against six of their counterparts from the rest of the world.

The competition is played on a dramatic black court and rotates host cities between Europe and the World annually. Each team’s six players must all compete in one singles match during the first two days, and no more than two during the three-day competition. At least four of the six players must play doubles. Each match win is worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday, and three points on Sunday, with the first team to reach 13 points winning the Laver Cup.
