Biography

Overview
The current No. 1 singles player from Peru, Ignacio Buse joins Team World at the ninth edition of the Laver Cup in London as the team alternate. Alternates are part of the official Laver Cup Team roster, participating in all activities, sitting on the bench courtside, and practicing to be ready to step in should a teammate be forced to withdraw. A former top-10 junior, Buse ascended to a career-high No. 30 in August after winning his second ATP Tour singles title at Winston-Salem.

Off Court
Buse started tennis at the age of two or three and says he grew up with a racquet in his hand. Coached by his father, Hans, at Peru’s Country Club de Villa, he later trained in Barcelona, where he was mentored by Spanish Roland-Garros champion Albert Costa.

Career
Buse continues to scale the PIF ATP rankings at a fast pace. Last year he was ranked inside the top 200; in January 2026 he moved into the top 100 and as of August, he enjoyed a career-high No. 30 with titles at the ATP 500 in Hamburg and the 250 at Winston-Salem. Notably in Germany, he upset Team Europe’s Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik, then No. 26 Tommy Paul to seal the trophy. At Winston-Salem, the 22-year-old defeated Team Europe alternate Arthur Fery to capture his second ATP singles crown. Earlier in the year, Buse defeated Joao Fonseca and Matteo Berrettini to reach the semifinals at Rio de Janeiro. He is the first player from Peru to participate in the Laver Cup.
