Biography

Overview
With his silky skills and elegant athleticism, Grigor Dimitrov has earned a reputation as one of the most graceful and exciting players to watch. The 33-year-old has been a trailblazer for his country, becoming the first Bulgarian male to win an ATP title, reach a Grand Slam semifinal and achieve a top-10 ranking. He made his Davis Cup debut at 16, is a two-time Olympian and became the first Bulgarian to play Laver Cup when he first represented Team Europe in Chicago 2018. On the first day of competition at the United Center, Dimitrov won the opening match against Frances Tiafoe.

Off Court
Dimitrov grew up idolizing Pete Sampras and lists Wimbledon as his favorite tournament. He started playing tennis when he was three, encouraged by his tennis coach father Dimitar and sports teacher mother Maria. Fittingly, he lists his dream opponents as Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, the Laver Cup Captains of Team Europe and Team World respectively.

Career
As a world No.1 junior who won Wimbledon and the US Open boys’ junior titles, Dimitrov was dubbed ‘Baby Fed’ because of the similarities in his game with Roger Federer. He has consistently competed at a high level since winning his first title in Stockholm in 2013, with his ranking peaking at No.3 after capturing the ATP Finals in 2017. Dimitrov returned to the top 10 in 2024 after an exceptional season in which he won a 9th ATP singles title in Brisbane, and was runner-up at Marseille and the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami. Along with two quarterfinal finishes at Roland Garros and the US Open, he reached the Round of 16 at Wimbledon and three more ATP Masters 1000 events: Indian Wells, Monte Carlo and Rome.
