Overview
David Goffin is set to make his Laver Cup debut after a career-best 12 months. Highlights include becoming the first Belgian male to achieve a top 10 ranking and a sensational run to the ATP Finals championship match, where the 27-year-old became only the sixth player to beat both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the same tournament.
Off court
Goffin learnt to play with his tennis coach father Michel when he was six. His brother Simon is also a coach who has worked with WTA players Andrea Petkovic, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and most recently Alize Cornet. Goffin’s childhood idol was Federer, whose posters used to adorn the young Belgian’s bedroom wall.
Career
Goffin is an offensive baseliner, whose strengths are his exceptional movement and return of serve. He has won four ATP singles titles, including two in late 2017. Goffin thrives in team competitions, as his impressive Davis Cup record demonstrates. His career record in singles is 23-3, having won his past 11 matches to lead Belgium to finals in 2015 and 2017.
