Biography

Overview
The highest-ranked Norwegian in ATP history and a three-time Grand Slam singles finalist, Ruud has competed in four editions of the Laver Cup since Boston 2021. Oslo-born Ruud, 26, holds 13 ATP singles titles and has been a stand-out contender among the next generation of players, compiling excellent results on clay and hard court surfaces.

Off Court
Ruud’s idol growing up was Rafael Nadal, and after starting tennis aged four, he spent time at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca. In 2024 he teamed with Nadal in doubles in Bastad where they reached the semifinals. Ruud loves watching golf and has a separate Instagram account to share his passion for the sport, @casper_golfer. He says he would be a pilot if he had not been a successful tennis player and follows the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team. He is coached by his father, Christian, who achieved a career-high No.39 ranking on the ATP Tour.

 Career
A former world No.1 junior, Ruud won his 13th singles career title at the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid, becoming the first Norwegian to reach such heights. A back-to-back finalist at Roland Garros in 2022 and 2023, he came within one victory of the world No.1 ranking in a winner-takes-all battle against Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open 2022 final. In August 2025 he partnered Iga Swiatek at the US Open at the newly minted mixed doubles event and came runner-up.
