Biography

Overview

British No.1 Norrie is enjoying the best form of his career, with a No.8 career-high ranking achieved in September and two more titles captured this year at Delray Beach in February, and Lyon in May. He holds a total of four ATP Tour singles titles and has been the top-ranked Brit since October, 2021. Norrie supported Team Europe’s campaign at Laver Cup Boston.

Off Court

Nicknamed ‘Noz’, Norrie was born in South Africa, grew up in New Zealand, studied sociology in Texas and moved to London in 2013, where he began representing Great Britain. He started playing tennis in the family driveway aged six, and says he would work in real estate if he didn’t play tennis. Norrie had two cacti tattooed on his left thigh to represent his first ATP titles, won at Los Cabos and Indian Wells, both in 2021. A fan of the South Sydney Rabbitohs and All Blacks rugby team, Norrie’s tennis idols growing up were Andre Agassi and Team Europe teammate, Rafael Nadal.

Career

Norrie owns four ATP Tour singles titles and in 2022 reached the semifinals for the first time at Wimbledon, where he lost to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in four sets. After winning his third career title at Delray Beach, he upset No.4 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semis at Acapulco, then was defeated by his childhood idol, Nadal. Norrie moved effortlessly from hard court to clay, and captured his second season title at Lyon. He continued to post strong results on the North American swing, reaching the semifinals at the Cincinnati Masters and the Round of 16 at the US Open.
