Biography

Overview
Tabilo will make his debut with Team World in Berlin, becoming the first player from Chile to represent at Laver Cup in Captain John McEnroe’s six-man team. Tabilo, 27, started the season ranked No.85 and shot to a career-high No.19 in the PIF ATP rankings after claiming his first two singles titles, the first in Auckland on hard court, and the next in Mallorca on clay.

Off Court
Born in Toronto and nicknamed Jano, Tabilo is the son of Ricardo and Maria, who own a cleaning company. He followed his older brother, Sebastian, into tennis and, at 13, left home to train in Florida. A left-hander, he grew up idolizing Rafael Nadal. Tabilo enjoys swimming and football and lists kindness as his best quality. He also has a talent for chess. He returned to Santiago permanently at 19, determined to follow in the footsteps of Chile’s most decorated players, Olympic gold medallists Nicolas Massu and Fernando Gonzalez, and former world No.1 Marcelo Rios.

Career
Tabilo made his Grand Slam debut at Australian Open 2020, and defeated No.1 Novak Djokovic for the biggest win of his career to reach the semifinals of the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome this year. He became the first Chilean since Gonzalez in 2007 to win a title on hard courts when he won Auckland in January as a qualifier. He fell short in the Santiago final but stunned top seed Djokovic at the Rome Masters and pushed eventual champion Alexander Zverev to three sets in the semifinals. Tabilo’s second title came on grass at Mallorca after which he reached the Wimbledon third round for the first time, his best performance to date in a Grand Slam.
